Misery
MISERY – Adapted from Stephen King’s acclaimed novel, Misery tells the story of novelist Paul Sheldon, who is rescued from a car crash by Annie Wilkes, a former nurse and his self-proclaimed “number one fan.” At first, Annie’s care seems like a stroke of luck, but Paul soon realises she has no intention of letting him go. Annie’s obsession with Paul’s fictional heroine leads her to demand a new book written to her liking. Isolated and confined, Paul faces the difficult task of meeting Annie’s expectations while searching for a way out. Misery is an intimate and tense drama that examines themes of power, control, and the fine line between admiration and obsession. Set almost entirely within the walls of Annie’s farmhouse, the play offers a close and unsettling look at two characters bound together in a dangerous struggle of wills.
Directed by Jonathan Canning. Shows run from 10-26 October
